Its a Question of Sport..?

Rugby League has sensationally defeated Rugby Union in a closely contested battle of the codes, which took place, not on the pitch, but during a Question of Sport-style event in West Yorkshire, which raised over £3,600 for a local charity.

Huddersfield Giants and Wales back-rower Larne Patrick claimed the honours for Rugby League by defeating former British Lions and England winger John Bentley, who represented Union. The duo were joined on the night by recently retired Giants star Luke Robinson and current Super League referee Richard Silverwood. The latter acting as scorer in the test of sporting knowledge, which League won by 47 points to 41, at Dewsbury District Golf Club.

Quiz master on the night was Robbie Hunter-Paul, who claimed some sort of neutrality, thanks to his career with Bradford Bulls and New Zealand and a short stint with Harlequins Union club in 1996. The Question of Sport challenge was the centrepiece of a fund raising event for Leeds Autism Services, attended by more than 100 people.

“”On behalf of everybody at Leeds Autism Services I would like to thank all of those who turned up and were involved in making the Question of Sport night a huge success”, said the charity’s fundraiser Karl Wilson.

He added: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable event and are delighted to receive £3615 which will go towards the refurbishing of our training kitchen.”

Local West Yorkshire companies Traditional Stone and Slate Supplies Ltd. and Traditional Masonry sponsored the evening. Chairman Jonathan Hunter commented: “We are delighted to be supporting this great charity and look forward to an action packed year of fundraising, which began with this event.
